The Government wants to sneak through the criminalisation of squatting, it will be voted on in Parliament this Tuesday 1st November.

Over 95% of responses to the ‘consultation’ on squatting were against further criminalisation, despite this the government is still going ahead with their proposals - effectively bypassing democracy.

SQUASH have tried engaging with the democratic processes but despite overwhelming support to not criminalise squatting we have been ignored.

Our only rational response now is to call for people to TAKE ACTION. We have been forced into this position. See you on the streets!

THIS CALL OUT EXTENDS TO OTHER CITIES TO TAKE ACTION OUTSIDE THEIR REGIONAL HOMELESS PERSON UNITS WITH MASS SLEEP OUTS, SOUP KITCHENS, AND OUTDOOR ENTERTAINMENT. FOLLOWED THE NEXT DAY BY ON MASS REGISTRATION OF HOMELESSNESS.

Something like 90% of the UK public object to squatting and you rigging the government consultation process won't change that.

Squatting was never intended to be how it is used these days but to provide overnight accommodation for migrant agricultural workers. The current squatting community are simply using outdated laws to get zero cost accommodation. Housing needs to be paid for and you are failing to contribute to society, you have used the law when it suited you now it's time to respect the law even if you don't like it.

What the fuck are talking about. Can you supply a link to this made up story and made up statistic? Squatting wasn't invented for migrant labour, ownership of land was invented for wealthy land owners.

Everyone knows that 110% of all statistics are made up by dicks like you anyway.

However the consultation wasn't rigged by us, the government tried to rig it but Crisis, Shelter, St Mungos, the Police and the Magestrates were all against criminilisation. If you feel that strongly about it you and your 90% should have responded to the consultation.

not only can the majority not afford to buy a property, most do not earn enough to rent one, especially in the capital. To rent from an estate agent you need to earn around 32.000 a year to be suitable for a two bedroom basic flat or they will not let you rent. Fucking clueless pricks like you fuel the shitty attitudes lots of people have about squatting and squatters...

Is it bollocks, squatting is now what it always has been, an excuse to get free accommodation.

I'm sick of hearing it excused as some sort of political act or "strike against the man". I've never met a squatter that was worth shit to the activist movement, every one I have met has got a chip on his or her shoulder, they think the world owes them housing for free and they are the first to whine some some real political work needs doing. Fuck em.

Squatting is clearly not direct action against capitalism. The vast majority of squatting is only in any way annoying to capitalists because they let themselves get annoyed. If they just let people be it would barely touch them. In the sense that you're talking about there ARE far more important campaigns ALWAYS, but ESPECIALLY now.

However, the reason we should try to save squatting is because a small minority of squatters aren't useless clueless middle class hippies thinking they're making a difference (just as this poster thinks squatting makes a difference). A small minority actually need it as housing. The vast majority of anarchists and anticapitalists have forgotten this in their desperation to save their cushy existence. Look at how the above poster didn't mention the fact that squatting provides shelter for the desperate - but only focussed on the (clearly nonexistent) political capital to be gained out of squatting.

And we call ourselves a movement for the poor.
