Indymedia censorship

ACAB | 25.10.2011 15:46

as someone who helped set up indymedia in 1999 it is rather sad to discover that indymedia moderators take down any posts that they feel uncomfortable with.

My post earlier about the copper killed on the motorway was meant to provoke debate. All it was met with was a stalinist approach. I am entitled to my views and will not be silenced by censorship. Indymedia was set up as a platform for free speech, away from censorship of the corporate media. Remember indymedia mission statement......Be the media.
Off to your boy scout camping protests. Who will you call when the state uses it`s stormtrooper police force to smash skulls indescriminatly!

Indymedia is getting so boring

25.10.2011 18:07

I have frequently had comments deleted on articles. Mostly where I criticise anarchist violence, and hating or attacking the police. I also notice in many years of looking at the site that there are generally way less posts. I imagine this is a combination of moderators taking down things they don't like as you say and others subsequently getting sick of their articles being taken down so they don't post anymore.

I think what you mean is.... total BOLLOCKS, in your opinion. George, my old son, for I`m sure I`m old enough to be your father. I speak from 30 years of class struggle political activisim on the streets expirence. Indymedia was started up as a newswire for people by people to encourage debate and free speech away from the party line. I take it that you are a moderator of indymedia, which I have formed the opinion that you have taken it upon yourself to deem what is appropiate and what is not.
My opinions of the police are based on my expirences of working class life.In the late 1970`s in my early teens I watched on the streets as the police violently attacked asian women picketing Grunwick racially abusing them also.In 1981 in Southall, when the police sided with right wing skinheads against the predominantly asian community defending their community. In 1984 I witnessed the miners strike, first hand as a flying picket, when Thatcher used the police as her private para militaries, violently oppressing workers fighting for their livelihood. Tottenham in 1985, when the police killed Cynthia Jarrett. Been the subject of intimidation, phone tapping, harrassment by the state and it`s lackeys, for campaigning and protesting within the law. I have not, smashed anything up, all my arrests have been trumped up charges by the police and CPS. When I have been violently attacked I have defended myself, when I have got the better of my attackers, sometimes the police, I have been framed as the aggressor. I abhor violence, yet if violently attacked I will defend myself using violence. The state is all too willing to use force to keep people "obedient" yet when the same methods are used in defence that is deemed as unlawful. Georgie boy, I am not an armchair activist, trolling is not my method. Healthy, intelligent debate, with facts and references. It would be nice, polite even, to have a reason for my post being taken down this morning. Was it because I am an anti militarist, not going along with the rest of the population feeling sorry for the soldiers who have got themselves killed or maimed? If an electrician electricutes himself, should we give him/her a medal. No, it means they are not competent at their job. Same as service personnel. If my opinions are not welcome on a site that was set up without editorial, we have reached a sorry place. Of course, you may have some excellent expirences of the police, which I am eager to hear and debate.

..some points which I agree with.

I will read your post again and your reply to me and get back to you when I get back from India.

I am sorry to hear of your experiences with police violence over the years. Policing has changed a lot though hasn't it? I have attended hundreds of demos on the last ten years and have only found to be a little over the top a few times. In the age of Youtube I see lots of videos called 'police brutality' of UK cops and never see anything of the sort aside from Ian Tomlinson.

Your post was removed because....

25.10.2011 21:25

.... you are a sick and twisted individual who seem to think that a policeman helping a woman who had broken down on the motorway and was in danger, ended up getting killed in a accident.

I suggest you take a look in the mirror at yourself and ask some questions like what the fuck have you become. Listening to your bigoted views on how all policeman are evil under all circumstances even when they are helping a member of the public is really fucking stupid.

I really fucking hate anarchists and you are a picture perfect reason why this is so.
Perhaps I can be accused of generalisation but it really makes me mad and sick when I hear people like ACAB spouting this bigoted shit

I tend to agree with ACAB's general sentiment...

25.10.2011 22:37

... and no I'm not a troll, just someone who hates the police due to various experiences with them.

But... it wasn't really news, just a mainstream media repost with some ranting commentary. So just for that reason it probably isn't the kind of thing suitable for Indymedia. Maybe start a blog with various schadenfreude stories about bad things happening the police. Kind of like Class War's entertaining "Hospitalised Copper" feature of old.

SIck bastard
Why not set up a site that reports unfortunate things happening to white people while you're at it because they are obviously all racists arn't they?

Dear Anon

I think what you mean is , in your opinion I am a sick twisted individual. A statement that holds no statement of fact, so therefore rather disturbing that a post should be taken down just because it upsets your feelings. The point I was trying to make is; How do we know as a fact that the policeman was in fact helping a woman motorist, they don`t do that, that is the job of the Highways agency on motorways. What I am suggesting is that in fact the policeman had probably stopped the woman for a motoring offence or most likely, the woman had been flagged on their computer, it is a documented fact that most stops on the motorway are for no tax or insurance. From my vast expirence of motorway driving up to 20,000 miles a year, on numerous occasions I have had to take evasive driving action to avoid an over zealous traffic policeman leaping into the carriageway, to question a driver they had stopped. In my opinion based on fact, the police do not take responsibilty for accidents, so to blame someone they arrest the driver of the lorry who hit him on suspiscion of dangerous driving, he hasn`t been charged or even found guilty. I stick to my opinion that people who join the police do so because they are on a power trip, just as people join the armed forces to kill people. The police was set up by Sir Robert Peel to protect the intrests of the state and the elite.
May I suggest you visit Trafalgar Sq in London this saturday and ask relatives of people who have died in custody at the hands of police and prison officers for their opinion, after all this is factual.Let us look at how the police lie and manipulate. Jean Charles DeMenizes was, according to the first police statement, wearing a large jacket and jumped the barrier at Stockwell station. It transpired that this was not the FACT. He was an innocent man who was the victim of mistaken idendity and a shoot to kill policy. Mark Duggan in Tottenham, again the facts were distorted by the police, which led to widespread disorder, due to poverty and a deep ingrained distrust of the police, through peoples bitter expirences. The list is endless.
No where in my post did I profess to be an anarchist, so I`d like your explaination as to how you have come to this conclusion and if you are the moderator who took down this post, may I suggest you at least in future enter dialogue and debate before dictating what should or should not be posted. Bigoted, no. Opinionated through facts. Yes. If you wish to enter a grown up intelligent debate, I welcome your comments. I predict that the police will very soon disperse the camp in London with full violent force. This will not be the act of a rouge policeman but orders from the top. Are you aware that the policeman accused and charged with the manslaughter of Ian Tomlinson has a history of being violent to people excercising their democratic right to protest, just as I am exercising my right to freedom of speech.I welcome your opinions, but please state that when abusing me, as none of what you say is factual. I, however, can bring statement of fact to mine.
