British government has proven a record of wrecklessness.

People were going on holiday in Sri Lanka even while the war was on.
Do you really think Tamils are safe on that island just because the ultra-nationalist government wiped out nearly 40,000 of them but said it did it in order to rescue them?
Do you think a government capable of that kind of atrocity will be concerned with their safety now or in the future?
If Tamils in this country do not feel safe going back to the island, then that is enough to keep them here, in safety.
Nobody can say with any degree of safety, what fate the Sri Lankan government will yet meet as a result of the crimes it has perpetrated.

My sister traveled throughout the country and saw many examples of the extensive investment that is being made in Tamil areas by the central government to repair the damage done by the Tigers.
Tamils wishing to stay in the UK are economic migrants not refugees fleeing oppression. If we use as a starting point people saying they feel they might be oppressed as a reason for granting leave to stay then we will have half the bloody world wanting to live here. I realise for a few idealistic types that sounds lovely but for people with a brain cell that's not a good idea.

Not safe.

Those people don't want to stay here because they are economic migrants. Thats just a 'dolly' for the anti-immigration brigade. For the anti-immigration brigade, everybody that isn't white is an immigrant.
They want to stay here because they don't want to be returned to a state that has compelling recent history of persecution of the Tamils. And for good reason too.
This has been well documented with fact. Despite these facts, the Sinhala government are still inclined to face-spitting rather than to accept those facts.
The Sri Lankan government have committed these crimes, are denying those crimes in the face of overwhelming evidence, and in this environment it is still not safe for Tamils to be forcibly returned.
I'm sorry you think reason is the exclusive domain of those with a brain cell...I have two and disagree.
