#Occupy FC looking for new signings at #OccupyLSX Get Involved!

#OccupyFC | 17.10.2011 14:57 | Occupy Everywhere

On Saturday the 15th of October, a new footballing phenomenon began in London. The power of football as a global language is well documented, but its power to occupy spaces for resistance and encourage unity in the face of global inequality is only now being realised. We decided to bring a football with us to the protest, and it soon became clear that many people agreed with us, with even police h...aving the occasional kick about! After talking to many other occupiers, we have decided to form a group based in the St. Pauls village that continues to use football both as a tool for entertainment and resistance, as well as for communication with police.

Occupy F.C. welcomes everyone to participate in this movement, regardless of nationality, ethnicity, gender, sexuality or age (or anything else). We fully encourage diversity, as we believe only a diverse yet unified movement can succeed in our aims! We encourage everyone to make suggestions as to how we can continue to use football in these ways!

The power of football to assert ourselves in occupied space has been used since at least the '70s and was much in evidence in the '90s. When we start playing football, we've REALLY taken the space! Police responses have included "We're not your fucking ball boys. Get it yourself."

Not just football, either. There's been touch rugby and Heseltine's lawn was an admirable surface for cricket..
