@nony | 06.10.2011 15:01 | SHAC | Animal Liberation | Cambridge

On November 5th, it will be exactly 10 years since Barry Horne died aged 49. Please join us for a memorial march in Huntingdon and a rally outside HLS.

Meet from 11.30am, Riverside car park off Riverside Road, Huntingdon PE29 3RP. Find out about transport from your local area via the website at www.barryhorne.org.

On November 5th, it will be exactly 10 years since Barry Horne died aged 49 in the hospital wing of the prison where he was serving 18 years for various criminal damage and arson actions mainly against companies involved in vivisection.

This year we will marking the anniversary with a rally and march in Huntingdon town centre, followed by a protest nearby at the gates of Huntingdon Life Sciences, the world's most notorious animal research centre, and the focus of many protests and actions during Barry's hunger strike campaigns.

We will be meeting at Riverside car park off Riverside Road, Huntingdon PE29 3RP, from 11:30, for speeches, info, food etc. At 13:00 there will be a short march through Huntingdon Town Centre. Straight afterwards we will be getting back in our vehicles and driving a few miles out of town to protest at the main site of Huntingdon Life Sciences, where tens of thousands of animals are tortured and killed each year.

We expect to see many of Barry's old friends there, and also many more activists who have joined the struggle in the past 10 years. Please keep this date free, and join us on November 5th as we remember Barry's courage and compassion, and renew our determination continue the fight for an end to all animal suffering and exploitation.

Praising a firebomber?

The animal rights movement is shrinking and shrinking and no wonder. Having a march to praise a firebomber who miraculously didn't kill anyone with his dangerous actions is beyond stupid. Grow up and step up to the political stage if you think your ideas are right.

I think you'll find

that getting involved in politics will not stop the torturers. 100 000 people marching on hls and all the other labs and physically dismantelling them would though. If they allowed cameras in the labs and filmed every sick experiment and showed them at 7pm every evening you will find 100 000 disgusted people in this country ready to act.

Normally I would allow myself to be drawn into a long and pointless argument with you about the legitimacy of property destruction in animal (or human for that matter) liberation movements but quite frankly it has been a long day and I can't be arsed so here's all you're getting:

Go fuck yourself. Barry was a warrior, a hero and an inspiration. I doubt you have done anything even NEAR the value of what he did for any movement you claim to be a part of. So you go on with your fuckwit petition activism or whatever it is you're into and let the real activists have a crack at making the world a better place.

By Any Means Necessary...
