Khethiwe Must Stay Saturday Lunchtime Campaign
Khethiwe Must Stay | 24.09.2011 00:29 | Migration
Khethiwe Mashavave is still detained in Yarls Wood. Her flight is booked to Harare on 29th September. Please come and protest with us at 12:30pm today.
Khethiwe Mashavave has been active for many years in a number of groups and organisations in Bristol , including her church, as a volunteer in Bristol Refugee Rights, Bristol City of Sanctuary, in the local group calling for Human Rights in Zimbabwe.
After going to sign on at Trinity Police Station on Wednesday Khethiwe was detained and is now being held in in Yarls Wood. She has been served a removal order to be flown back to Harare on 29th September.
Khethiwe was highly prominent at the official public launch of Bristol as a City of Sanctuary in June this year. She was the keynote speaker for asylum seekers and refugees in the Council House at the civic launch ceremony. She was alongside the Lord Mayor, the Lord Lieutenant, the Leader of the Council Barbara Janke, the Dean of Bristol Cathedral and the Secretary of SW TUC. Her speech was applauded loudest and longest by a packed audience.
Her activities in UK will undoubtedly endanger her yet further if she is returned to Zimbabwe.
Please come and join us in calling that KHETHIWE MUST STAY in the city centre by the fountains, to raise awareness and collect petition signatures on this busy weekend in the city centre.
