Kukutza social centre got violently evicted today after 13 years of okupation. The developers company owning the abandoned building have decided now that they are going to knock it and turn it into flats, against the will of all the Errekalde community.
Over 50 people injured (3 reported on the news), more than 30 riot police vans, 2 "tanketa", 1 helicopter and who knows how many pigs. The eviction was resisted to the end.
Over 5000 people got out on the streets of Bilbao. Police charged against crowds with children and elderly (as they do) with rubber bullets. 31 arrested.
The planning permission for the demolition of the building have been temporarily stopped in Bilbo Court today, after finding some irregularities on the administrative process.
Nasty stuff but is nice to see people out in the streets.
