Wishful thinking maybe...

It certainly looks set to be a tough battle, but I'm not too sure that means it's the start of the revolution.

Solidarity to everybody there.

Doubtful, but...

I fully support the protection of the site and residents at Dale Farm and wish everyone involved the best of luck and safety, however, to claim it as the beginning of Britain's own revolution is totally naive. The main reason why the uprisings that formed the Arab Spring were so successful is that for the most part they happened with either the blessing or material support of western governments - PNAC is alive and well, albeit under a different name these days. The 'leader' of the Egyptian movement, for example was trained by the CIA, Libyan rebels have full air support thanks to the NATO, and in Tunisia western agents were rumoured to have been at work alongside the revolutionaries. There is no such support for similar uprisings in the UK, US or elsewhere in Europe, for obvious reasons, and so attempts at such large-scale actions may be tolerated at first, but ultimately will be crushed by heavy police tactics. The state will not accept it because it doesn't have to and without powerful outside allegiances any revolution here is doomed to fail because in material terms the state is stronger than the people.
Would you let a swarm of flies oust you from your home? No.

Guns

If it is a credible threat that will 'topple' the government then the police will be issued with guns.
If that fails, the army will be bought in and will set up a firing line. If further control is required, then i would imagine helicopter gunships will be deployed.

Be careful everyone, if this is truly the 'mother of all battles' then we need adequate defences built to protect again heavy calibre rounds.
