Retraction: EDL and Stabbings

We published an article yesterday casting doubt on the claims that two EDL members were stabbed outside the Tyburn Pub in Marble Arch, London.

We now accept these stabbings did happen and anyone with any information should contact Westminster Serious Violence Team on 0207 321 9314, or Crimestoppers anonymously.

This followed their disgraceful and disrespectful behaviour when they met up with Muslims Against Crusades and started shouting and brawling in the street during and after the 9/11 memorial for the British victims of the terrorist attacks

Despite extensive enquiries to the Met Police and local hospitals no one could verify it so we assumed that it was a story along the lines of the coach insurance fraud and the faked attack on leader Kevin Carroll.

The Met Police have now confirmed the incident here:We now accept these stabbings did happen and anyone with any information should contact Westminster Serious Violence Team on 0207 321 9314, or Crimestoppers anonymously.

We do however stand by the origional report published here.

Indymedia does not endorse the appeals to co-operate with the cops. This appeal has come from the euphemistically titled EDL News, it's therefore a reflection on them and their politics.

I havent had the time to look through the Indymedia founding statement, but im pretty sure that posts on the website encouraging people to co-operate with the Police in any way should be removed.

If EDL members get stabbed it's their own stupid fucking fault. Even if you disagree with this, surely no one who moderates this website believes that policing, courts and prisons are the way to resolve anything.

This site should never be seen to collaborate with the police in any any context.

If it does, it risks smearing the social movements attached to it.

If this isn't taken down soon this will present some serious issues.

One set of racist scumbags had a fight with another set of racist scumbags and two of the racist scumbags got stabbed.

Hardly a reason to abandon all your principles and grovel to the OB is it?

The only thing that concerns me is that it might have been distressing for onlookers and its certainly disgusting in the context of a 9/11 memorial. Apart from that, they deserved it - shame a few more MAC and EDL didn't end up in casualty.

If you can't tell the difference between a repost from another site and "grovelling" from Indymedia then there isn't much hope for you.

My guess is that if any witness had seen the stabbing and had an inclination to co-operate with the pigs they'd have done it by now.

One can only assume that if you'd seen the stabbing and then seen this repost on Indymedia you'd feel a sudden compulsive urge to be stupid enough to go running to the cops and get yourself into the witness box.
