/strong> After much popular demand, the People's Supermarket is now ready to recruit a team of volunteers and an Advisory Group to build the foundations for this exciting new venture.

A People's Supermarket is a community-owned food shop that sells healthy, sustainable food at realistic prices. Prices will be kept realistic through a membership scheme. In return for 10% discount on all their shopping, members contribute, for example, £4 and 4 hours a month. The money generated will cover overheads like rent and utility bills. Almost all staff time will be covered by members volunteering their time. Bingo – we are able to sell food that's good for everyone at cost price. What's more, a People's Supermarket is more than just a food shop. It is a space to bring people from all walks of life together around food to explore and learn how food can start to play a more positive role in eveyone's lives. We will be working with community growing projects, local farmers, other local shops and cafes and Stoke's Croft new Community Kitchen to support people to enhance their lives through transforming their relationships with food.

We are very keen to recruit a team that fully represents the local area's amazing diversity so this initiative can work towards understanding and meeting the needs of the whole community.

Core Team volunteers
We are currently recruiting a team of volunteers to start building the foundations for this exciting new community enterprise. We are looking for dynamic self-starters who can dedicate at least 8 hours a week. You will be supported by a larger Advisory Group made up of experienced local professionals who will meet approximately once a month initially.

To find out more and apply, download an application pack from www.bristolindependents.co.uk or email Dan Ilesdanrowaniles@googlemail.com

The deadline for applications is 25 September. Interviews will be held on Wed 28 Sept.

Advisory Group members
We are looking for experienced, forward thinking people to form an Advisory Group to guide and support this Core Team of volunteers. If you have skills and experience relevant to setting up an ambitious community food initiaitve then we would love to hear from you. This could include anything from accounting, financial or legal expertise through to social entrepreneurialism, marketing, food retail or production. The Advisory Group will initially meet once a month. The regularity of meetings will likely reduce as the project finds its feet.
