yesterday around 450 anti fascists occupied Edinburgh city centre, our aim was to stop the fascist SDL from entering Edinburgh. The anti-fascists arrived early and made our way to where the SDL demo was supposed to be, by mid-day we had around 400 activists in the city centre, this was a defeat for the SDL because now their protest had to moved from the original site. There was an assortment of anti-fascist protestors including students, N.U.T some antifa and UAF. When the SDL arrived they were penned in up a road well away from the general public so they could not spread their poisonous message, some antifascist protestors went to confront the SDL and shouted abuse at them but the police sided with the fascists and moved the anti fascist protestors away.
On the negative side the SDL increased their numbers to around 200, although some of their people were from northern England. There was also another anti-fascist protest above the SDL demo, there was around 50 protestors displaying a banner of adolf Hitler commiting suicide with a revolver, some of our comrades from this group also went to confront the SDL, and it looked like the SDL were going to take the bait, but the police moved the anti-fascists away, The day was a victory for the anti-fascists as our protest was clearly visible, where as the SDL were kept away from the general public, although we did not attract the numbers that we did the previous year, we still managed to stop the SDL from entering Edinburgh city centre
