EDL, SDL & NWI threaten violence against Anti-Fascists

The Scottish Defence League are threatening to demonstrate in Edinburgh this Saturday, 10 Sept 2011, 1pm to 4pm. The SDL is well-known for being almost 100% BNP, and recent NWI Facebook posts describe one of their opponents as a "Paki loving cunt", and say that the "NWI-NEI-SDL coallition thrive on kicking the shit out of cunts like you". One SDL supporter is Paul Newlands, who has a huge Swastika tattooed on his chest...

As most Indymedia readers probably know, the Scottish Defence League are threatening to demonstrate in Edinburgh city centre this Saturday, 10 Sept 2011, 1pm to 4pm, and branches of EDL organiser John "Snowy" Shaw's newish North West Infidels and North East Infidels groups are planning to join the SDL demo. The EDL fall over themselves to pretend they're not racist, despite EDL leader Stephen Lennon being photographed attending a BNP meeting alongside known Nazis, despite EDL organiser Jeff Marsh's Welsh Defence League and Casuals United groups being outed as Combat 18 fronts, and despite dozens of EDL protestors being photographed giving Nazi salutes (see You Tube).

The SDL is also well-known for being almost 100% BNP, and recent NWI Facebook posts describe one of their opponents as (apologies for their language) a (quote) "Paki loving cunt", and say that the "NWI-NEI-SDL coallition (sic) thrive on kicking the shit out of cunts like you". As usual these people describe all their opponents as "Red scum" (as if all Anti-Fascists are somehow Communists) who they say they will "systematically tear limb from limb", before making equally psychotic racist jokes about "ethnics" (see screen-captures). One confirmed SDL supporter / protestor is Paul Newlands, who has a huge Nazi Swastika tattooed on his chest (see screen-captures).

It seems strange offering much analysis of statements as blunt as these, but, at the risk of stating the obvious, we can at least thank the NWI for being honest (unlike the EDL) about their real beliefs. Foul-ups like the EDL's failed attempt to march into Tower Hamlets, and the strain of trying to come across as normal human beings are clearly getting too much for some EDL activists, who are using these EDL splinter groups to cut to the chase and pursue what always was their true agenda - violent racism.

In terms of what to do on Saturday the answer is obviously to attend the Anti-Fascist counter-protest in Edinburgh, and, while when push comes to shove the EDL often turn out to be all mouth and no trousers (ie - in Amsterdam) it's also worth remembering that 600 of these people were Facebook friends with mass-murderer Anders Breivik, so it's definitely not a good idea to be complacent about their potential for violence.

Previous counter-protests against the SDL have been fantastic, so there's not much to add to what's already well-known, however the police react aggressively to Anti-Fascists wearing shades and masks etc, but have these handy to avoid being photographed by EDL-SDL-NWI etc as and when needs must. Even if you don't like the police make SURE the cops, newspapers, TV etc have been sent copies of the NWI's threats ASAP, so the cops spend more time kettling on the EDL-SDL-NWI instead of harassing decent people, and make sure you get plenty of clear photos / video of the EDL etc and post it up on Indymedia, Facebook and You Tube etc. Don't get kettled.
