On the day the House of Commons held the second day of the report stage and third reading of the Health and Social Care Bill, (Wednesday, 7 September) Andrew Lansley was opening a conference for the independent healthcare sector.  Also present was Barbara Hakin, National Managing Director for Commissioning Development at the Department of Health, and David Bennett, Chairman and Interim Chief Executive of Monitor

Laing & Buisson arranged a one day symposium for the independent healthcare sector and the opening speaker was Andrew Lansley. This took place yesterday, on the very day that the Health and Social Care Bill received it's third "reading" in the House of Commons and was approved by MPs by 65 votes to go back to the House of Lords.

The day consisted of talks about riveting matters such as: Putting private healthcare back on the political agenda, Investment opportunities, The OFT's market study into private healthcare, Private practice the new market for the NHS.

Andrew's friends were also present. Ian Dalton, Managing Director of Provider Development at the Department of Health, gave a presentation called "Transforming the role of providers: the new open market in healthcare, opportunities for independent sector providers.

I'm not making this up. Mr Andrew "ludicrous scaremongering" Lansley was there and so were his mates from the Department of Health. Here is a link to the brochure for this conference http://www.laingbuisson.co.uk/Portals/1/Conference/Brochure_Forum_1.pdf
