Tower Hamlets: more info and template email to meeting point pubs
Antifa | 02.09.2011 15:26 | Anti-racism
The EDL are marching in tower hamlets on saturday in a move to deliberately provoke racial disturbances in the east end of london. Various counter-demonstrations and antifascist action will be taking place. The purpose of this article is to spread the information that is being gathered, and to provide readers with a list of contact details for pubs the EDL will be using to 'muster', and a template email you can send them. Action will be fast on the day but there are several small things you can do in advance to help fuck them over and undermine their disgusting white man's street-fighting march.
The latest update from the EDL facebook page (which you can find at http://www.facebook.com/notes/english-defence-league-edl/tower-hamlets-update-very-important-please-read-ns/253382458029613 accessible without logging in) shows that they've had serious trouble organising and sticking with plans. They're having difficulty bringing the numbers down but it's possible they will still get a big crowd. Their current plan is to meet at pubs in Kings Cross (which isn't even in the east end let alone tower hamlets) and march the 5 miles over to tower hamlets.
On the day it will be necessary to pass information quickly from Kings Cross and the march route to counter-demos such as the UAF one starting at 11am, on the corner of Vallance Road and Whitechapel Road, London E1. Organise spotters to keep an eye on the demo and relay the information to others at the counter-demos. The EDL will quite possibly be using the underground to move fast instead of having to walk all the way, remember on a general safety note if you see a fire in an underground station you should set off two different fire alarms to ensure the station is closed until it has been thoroughly checked by the fire brigade.
Here are the contact details of pubs the EDL is rumoured to be using as 'muster points', and a template email … all you have to do is fill in the name of the relevant pub in the first paragraph … remember to do this! Remember the EDL could go anywhere around the east end as a last minute muster point, if you know pub staff make them aware of the situation, if you can think of any pubs the EDL might be especially interested in send them an email too.
NB this is not a list of pubs that support the EDL. It's very unlikely they were aware (until the emails started) that the EDL have any plans to come to their pub. These are not the bad guys.

The Driver, 2-4 Wharfdale Road, London N1 9RY. Tel. 020 7278 8827. Can't find a general email address but their website is www.driverlondon.co.uk and two email addresses I found on the site are info@blondeproductions.co.uk and press@driverlondon.co.uk so they'll probably pass the message on. I don't think they'll have much luck there though as it's a posh place and according to their online reservation tool it's fully booked for the next month.
The Euston Flyer was on the list for the EDL but having been notified of EDL plans this pub has chosen not to open tomorrow. Full respect to them and worth noting that contacting these pubs is getting results.
O'Neills, 73-77, Euston Rd, London, NW1 2QS. Tel. 0207 380 0464, owners are Mitchells and Butler, email address: media.centre@mbplc.com NB the EDL seem to no longer be planning to meet here but things are changing very quickly and they may have some kind of secret/back-up plan so definitely worth emailing still.
TEMPLATE LETTER:
Dear Sir or Madam,
I don't know if you were aware, but I understand the English Defence League are planning to use [name of pub] as a meet point for their demonstration which aims to reach Tower Hamlets on Saturday.
The EDL call themselves a family-friendly group taking action against the so-called 'islamification' of England, but are in fact a street-fighting wing of a movement that includes the bnp and the national front. They have well-documented links with Anders Behring Breivik, the man who slaughtered 69 mostly-teenagers on a summer camp in Norway recently. It is thought that Breivik attended several EDL demos, the exact same events as the one that is due to start in your pub on saturday.
I have been unfortunate enough to see the EDL march on countless occasions. They start at a pub, get tanked up and spend the rest of the day running around the streets taunting, intimidating and attacking non-white members of public. Nazi salutes are commonplace. Their motivation for marching in Tower Hamlets is to cause maximum racial confrontation in an area with loads of immigrants and foreigners.
I fully accept that you haven't invited them in to your pub or anything like that. But I want to email to beg that you don't allow them to use your pub to further their cause. Should you allow them in you will not only fuel their disgusting racist free-for-alls, but also risk having some serious brawls in your pub. Aside from a large crowd of skinheads up for a fight with anyone who isn't white, there are some very very committed antifascists out there and this march will turn very ugly at some point.
I don't know anything about your political views or your experiences of multiculturalism and racism, but I hope that, like most English people, you are proud of our multicultural society and the colour and flavour that different ethnic groups bring to our way of life. I see the EDL as the worst kind of scum to populate this land, using the lowest of all factors, skin colour, as an excuse for a big bust-up. Wetherspoons has banned all EDL events at its pubs. When I used to live in Bath and the BNP came to speak there, a string of independent pubs and the local Revolutions bar refused them entry. I beg you to do the same, both for political reasons and for the safety of yourself and your staff.
Thank you for taking the time to read this email. I hope that your pub escapes the ugliness that I think is now inevitable somewhere.
Yours,
