Squats in Spain

Hi to all,

Me and some mates are thinking to go for a couple of days to Spain and we were wondering if anyone knows or have lived before in any squat in Spain. It would be great to let us know. Thanks in advance.

If ur looking for a place to stay I don't know any. I do know of a squatted social centre in Madrid though. It's called the Patio Maravillas and you'll find it at number 21 Calle Pez (fish street). They do lots of good stuff there and they've got a bar which helps.

There is another place in Madrid called La Tabacelera:  http://latabacalera.net/

It's an old tabacco factory that's technically owned by the council but the people managing it are good guys and it's an interesting place.

Barcelona is full of residential squats but I don't think you will always get a friendly welcome if you don't know anyone....

Cheers

Places to stay in Spain?

Have you ever looked at couchsurfing? All sorts of people (3 million at the last count) from all walks of life. It is free and We thoroughly enjoy it as both hosts and also to visit people and understand where they live.

Hope that is ok to mention?

Good luck!

squatting in spain is minorly illegal. The crime is called Ursurping property, there is a risk of a fine similar to the cost of rent.

Barcelona has 300 !

I once went to squatted villages in the pyranees where they campaigned against a dam.

Alternativly there is a british travellers site at orjiva nr granada.
