Another camp destroyed in Calais...

Shortly before 8am yesterday, four CRS vans, 3 arrest vehicles, number of PAF cars, and SNCF security officers descended on a small camp in Calais which had sprung up in some bushes near the food distribution site.

Activists sleeping in the camp were able to alert others who promptly arrived on the scene.
One activist was grabbed, held to the ground and kicked by officers, before being arrested. Seven migrants were caught and taken to Coquelles police station.

Tents were destroyed, sleeping bags were taken, and pest control (specifically anti-rat and cockroach) disinfected the area. Some possessions were able to be salavaged by activists to be returned to the detainees on release.

The Mayor's assistant Philippe Mignonnet, who is a well-known figure and strong advocate of the repression of migrants in Calais, also arrived at the scene of the raid and chatted to police officers. Questions are being asked as to how much of a personal role Mignonnet has in the anti-migrant operations in the area.

Several dozen more migrants were seen in Coquelles police station, presumably taken from elsewhere in Calais. Officers were overheard discussing numbers they still needed to arrest; something which yet again supports the theory that the arrest policy in Calais operates on a quota system.

The activist has since been released with a caution for 'rebellion'.
