In yet another piece of dodgy-looking internal BNP shenanigans, Nick Griffin has clung on to his position as leader of the BNP by 9 votes, with 11 spoiled ballots. According to the BNP website, Griffin polled 1157 votes and his opponent Andrew Brons (the other BNP MEP) 1,148.

In the past year Griffin has become a national laughing stock and the impact on his party standing is palpable. The BNP has been transformed from a mildly-worrying and growing fascist front group into a dying national laughing stock. Amid constant and increasingly convincing claims of corruption and money laundering that run right up the power structure, few will read this result without raising an eyebrow.
