Estate Agents attacked - Bristol

some anarchists | 21.07.2011 12:10 | Social Struggles

Last night (20 July) the windows of Maggs & Allen Bristol were smashed.

We did this in response to Maggs & Allen's part in the threatened eviction of the Freeshop and the Emporium, two squatted spaces on Stokes Croft. Our solidarity goes out to all people being threatened with eviction, from those in squats to those who can't afford their rent.

To those who seek to criminalise squatting - a law designed only to protect property, which will make it harder for anyone, squatters or not, to house themselves: let this be an indication that we will resist.

Our actions last night were an expression of our rage against all estate agents and all others who profit from people's need for shelter.

For those who profit from inflating rent prices and benefit from rising instability and the increasing lack of control in our lives, we have nothing but rocks and anger.

We refuse to wait for your bailiffs and intend to take the fight to those who attack us. Our struggle for freedom is one of our own choosing.

is this news? and was it big and clever to break their windows, when isn't it ordinary people who will pay for it to be replaced?

Ordinary People?

Sorry but the people replacing these windows will be the estate agents, not the "ordinary people" you suggest but people who can probably afford it...

Estate agents here in london are at the forefront of the gentrification process, which results in massive rents which real "ordinary people" cant afford...

This act might seem a little over the top, but the real news is the day to day struggles which the majority of this country have to deal with.

Its time we exposed estate agents for what they do, and if that means direct action then so be it....

good luck to you bristolians....

property is owned by someone. It is not yours to squat in.

Otherwise, if i wanted your MP3 player - i could take it and use it when your back is turned.

Squatters do not have the right to use other people's stuff that they have worked and paid for.

You do not have the right to smash other people's windows.

In retribution of this action, I have reported a crime to the police whereby someone in the red factory squat in bristol tried to sell me a stolen camera. Solidarity with people who work and pay for stuff that they use.
