Get ready for the Day of Action against Shell in Mayo

Rossport Solidarity Camp | 03.07.2011 12:40 | Rossport Solidarity

Last week Shell put a notice in the paper that they will be starting the next stage of construction on the pipeline soon. The national campaign and the local community are preparing for this. As part of the ongoing opposition there will be a day of mass action on the Friday following when work begins again. We are calling for as many people to make it down to the site at Aughoos and take part in stopping Shell. The call out will go out via indymedia, this website and our mail update list.

The choice of Friday week should give people time to organise days off work and organise transport, but we are encouraging people to think about it now and what they might be up for so we can be as effective as possible. Transport from Dublin will be available (contact Dublin Shell to Sea for more information).

In the meantime we need people to supply us materials from our wish list (see link under 'Support Us'), to spread information about the day of action and to do fundraisers. The camp is going to be resisting the pipeline with all it has - support is crucial for us to sustain this, but most important is for people to come here and take action.

The whole Corrib project is an attempt by Shell and other multinational oil companies to pillage. This is with the complicity of a corrupt government attempting to make savage cuts that could be paid for many times over by the potential profits from the project. It is not just about the people of Erris, but saying no more to the corruption that has turned the Irish government into the poodle of multinationals.
