Antonio Gramsci and Leon Trotsky are not often linked in academic scholarship - yet both were leaders of the revolutionary workers' movement organised by the Communist International before it was corrupted by Stalinism and both made central, irreplaceable contributions to the classical Marxist tradition. Was Gramsci the same sort of Marxist as Trotsky? What is the relationship between their ideas, and what relevance do they have for revolutionary activists today?
