Brian Haw, the British campaigner for peace who refused to be silenced, set up camp outside Parliament in 2001 -- and stayed there for 10 years.

What began as an angry response to economic sanctions and British and US bombing raids on Iraq grew into a wider protest after the 9/11 attacks on New York and Washington DC, as well as the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq that followed.
Exposing the plight of victims of its foreign policy, Haw remained a thorn in the side of UK lawmakers who even rewrote legislation to have him moved him out of the parliamentary precinct - with limited success.
