State of Play- Guardian/mainstream media attack 'Assange Is Bad','Manning Is Mad'

Ciaron - Giuseppe Conlon House, London Catholic Worker | 11.06.2011 19:29

In England, the left liberal (this maybe not the ideology of those who run this rag, but they definitely know their niche market!) Guardian/ Observer continue to run an "ASSANGE IS BAD, MANNING IS IN MAD"

In the U.S., Manning is being pitched pre-trial as an angry gay man seeking retribution on society.

Last weekend Iraq veterans and others made their way to Leavenworth, Kansas, USA...where Bradley has been moved after failure to break him over the past 12 months under torture at Quantico (Virginia). Leavenworth is a town of 20,000 in Kansas contains 5 prisons (2 military, 3 civilian). It is located about an hour drive from Kansas City, Missouri. I spoke by phone last night to an organiser who attended the Leavenworth demonstration.

Presently the best hunch of solidarity organisers in the U.S. is that
Pre-Trial will be in 6-8 weeks from now
Trial likely in Dec-Jan
Trial should last 2 1/2 months
Pre-trial & trial will be held near D.C.

has been subpeoned to appear before the WikiLaks Grand Jury that has been sitting in Virginia for some time. No luck thus far on their fishing expedition.

My understanding of Grand Jury is that you are granted immunity under questioning and have your "right to remain silent" taken from you. If you refuse to answer any question you can be held for 2 years by the Feds for "contempt of the Grand Jury". This was used against the Puerto Rican independence movement activists extensively in the '80's. I was in Oklahoma Prison with a young Italian American held in contempt of GJ who had refused to answer questions about his uncle accused of Mafia activity. I was told that after the two years they can call together a new Grand Jury and put you through the process again. Last year, across the U.S., there were a series of raids of anti-war activists some who had visited Palestine with ISM last year - the same tactic is being deployed against them.

Meanwhile in England Assange remains isolated from any support
- free speech advocate, the anarchist scee have not uttered a word
- exposed the nature of the war, besides minimal initial abulance chasing by SWP/ ex SWP "Stop the War"
- along with Manning, heading to jail for a life time in the (mistaken) belief that if only people knew the nature of these wars they would at least talk about a little more, if not take action against it. But in England over these long ten years civilian and military resisters are left pretty isolated. So no changes there!

The footage below contains interviews with veterans responding to the present U.S. mainstream media character assasinations on Bradley Manning.

Julian Assange goes to his High Court Appeal in London against extradition on July 12 & 13.
Tie to speak out and act up in solidarity with Brad and Julian and all resisting these wars!

i stand 100 percent in solidarity with the courageous bradley manning, but assange i can not support. not only the allegations against him, but his words to the press about those allegations, make this impossible. i can not support misogyny and neither should you. linking the two men does huge damage to mr manning, who is entirely innocent as far as i can tell, unlike mr assange.

"i stand 100 percent in solidarity with the courageous bradley manning, but assange i can not support."

You've got to be an uncritical Guardian reader, no? This is the position those calling the shots want the liberal left in England to take and you have taken it! Don't you see how you are being played?

Manning is presently under U.S. jurisdiction and may remain so for the rest of his life (which may be shortened by being killed in jail...I have been in population three times when felow prioners have been killed, this shit happens). Manning is under U.S. jurisdictin that is why the Guardian can big up Bradley as a sop to their readership, while knifing Assange Assange is inder Brit jurisdiction (it was the Brits under directions form the Americans, not the Swedes, who opposed bail in December. It was th Brits that put Assange in solitary at HMP Wandsworth off line outta communication, out of the loop. It was the Brits who electronic tagged Assange and put him under restrictive bail conditons.

"not only the allegations against him, "

if the Swedish cop/ court process is not merely a holding action to buy time for the U.S. WikiLeaks Grand Jury to get their shit together or the techniques pioneered at LongKesh/ refined at Abu Ghraib and Gitmo to succeed in breaking Manning and implicats Assange...why don't the Swedish cops interview Assange in England. Brit cops are forever travelling to Australia ( a lot bigger distance) and OZ cops to England to carry out such investigations.

"but his words to the press about those allegations, make this impossible. i can not support misogyny and neither should you."

You're going to have try harder, put in a little more effort to make your case here. Maybe it's a cultural bias you share with the Guardian public school boys, you think all of us Australians are misogynists and we think most of you class ridden empire nostalgics present as misanthropes.....both prejudices may have a germ of truth but are hsrdly the truth. The Guardian present Assange as arrogant, obnoxious, rude Brits swallow it. Australians see his manner as direct and blunt as par for the course in Australia.

With our convict streak we remain generally seceptical about the cops, we assume they are as corrupt as the crew your lot sent out originally to set up white Australia, torture the (majority) Irish convicts enslaving them to build the infrastructure, murder the indigenious and stage the Rum Rebellion coup d'etat  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rum_Rebellion

The general opinion in Australia, besides our compliant Labor/ Green Party government busy sending off young Australianst die in Afghanistan, is that Assange is being fitted up and railroaded.

"linking the two men does huge damage to mr manning, who is entirely innocent as far as i can tell, unlike mr assange."

Manning and Assange are both innocent. The soldiers (and those who ordered them) who shot the men on the road, killed the father on the school run as they lit up the second car who had come to see if there was on anyone that could be saved and wounded the daughter and second child. Does your "femisim" only extend to white folks? Most of the million Iraqis (Lancett Report" killed in this illegal war and invasion have been women and children...where is the English feminist movement in contiuing to oppose this conrinuing war. How big are Iraqi women and children on the English "feminist" agenda?

This position you hold, you share with Ann Clwyd, Labour MP (feminst? dunno?) for Cynon Valley who has injected herself (under whose direction?, for whatever motive?, you tell me?) into the Manning campaign in England/ Wales with disastrous results.

This would be the same Ann Clwd MP who dropped the hoax "Saddam's human shredding machine" chestnut on 18 March [2003] -- the day of the Iraq debate in the House of Commons and three days before the start of the war. Clywyd brings

See exposure of said hoax here....
 http://www.sovereignty.org.uk/siteinfo/newsround/iraq6.html

"Clwyd described an Iraqi's claims that male prisoners were dropped into a machine 'designed for shredding plastic', before their minced remains were 'placed in plastic bags' so they could later be used as 'fish food'. Sometimes the victims were dropped in feet first, reported Clwyd, so they could briefly behold their own mutilation before death.

Not surprisingly the story made a huge impact. Two days after Clwyd's article was published, the Australian Prime Minister John Howard addressed his nation to explain why he was sending troops to support the coalition in Iraq; he talked of the Baathists' many crimes, including the 'human-shredding machine' that was used 'as a vehicle for putting to death critics of Saddam Hussein'. Clwyd received an email from the US deputy defence secretary, Paul Wolfowitz, who expressed admiration for her work and invited her to meet him at the Pentagon. Her Times article on the shredder is still on the US State Department's website, under the heading 'Issues of International Security'.

--MANNING IS IN MAD
A year being abused in solitary is enough to damage his mental health.

--an angry gay man seeking retribution on society
If he really wanted retribution on America he could of leaked really damaging top secret CIA/NSA military documents.

--damage?
The documents have be used in the campaign for change in Tunisia, Eygpt and Libya. Freedom & democracy should be in Americas interests. The whole world is watching the injustice.

-evil hackers
He is only alleged to of downloaded military webpages and copyed them to disk, which is not illegal. Brads online boasts with facebooks' 2600 hackers, might wrongly be used against him.
