Cuts Cuts - Kroll and City of London Police Counter Terrorism Directorate spend £1,000,000 in 'Operation Bohan' on a civil matter
Plumber Ian Puddick exposed a board member of the worlds largest reinsurance company Guy Carpenter Ltd for making false expense claims to hide an affair with his secretary. The board member who vigorously denied the allegations approached Sussex Police who confirmed in an email that the matter was civil and that they did not believe the board member would turn up in court.
Guy Carpenter Ltd keen to ensure their reputation remained intact engaged the services of their sister company Kroll. The managing Director of Kroll, B Hamilton confirmed in emails that they had friendly contacts at City of London Police.
Shortly after a meeting attended by Kroll, Detective Chief Inspector Chandler, Detective Superintendent Davies and various heads of the Major Crimes Directorate, DCI Chandler confirmed 'considerable resources'.
Ian's home, office and company accountants was then raided by officers from the Counter Terrorism & Major Crimes Directorate - all pc's, phones, laptops, digital cameras and sat nav's were confiscated and sent to the high tech crimes laboratory for forensic analysis.
Ian was charged with non violent harassment for contacting people and informing them about the expenses and the affair.
Before the trial, documents show Guy Carpenter Ltd carried out an internal investigation into the expenses of the board member. Before disciplinary proceeding commenced, the board member resigned from the company after 33 years for 'personal reasons'.
The charge against Ian was dropped.
Appalled at this clear Abuse of Power, Ian created a blog about his experiences, exposing the veneer of respectability between these corporations.
Ian's home and office were again attended by officers from City of London Murder Squad, Ian has been charged with the criminal offence of creating a 'blog which discredits a person professionally and personally'.
Ian has been the subject of dirty tricks campaign, his home has been burgled and all his court defence documents stolen.
Ian said 'if the complaint had been made by a milkman would they have wasted £1m and got the terrorism and murder squad involved?'
All freedom of Information requests have been declined by City of London Police on the grounds 'not in the public interest'
