Refugee services being cut

Public sector cuts being introduced by the coalition government are having an overwhelmingly negative impact on public and voluntary sector organisations providing services for refugees and asylum seekers in Oxfordshire.

The cuts directly impact on the lives of our clients, indisputably some of society’s most vulnerable members who may have escaped persecution and physical or sexual violence. For example, clients without access to basic state benefits (despite common myths that asylum seekers are ‘benefit scroungers’), children, single women with children, and clients speaking little English.
