How to ask if you are on police databases

Guardianista | 03.05.2011 13:00 | Repression | Workers' Movements

I won't do a corporate repost as we all know that isn't permitted here but The Grauniad has on the face of it, a useful guide here to help you find out what information might be held about you in police intelligence files with a handy pro forma letter:

If enough activists take this up then it would be useful to know how far Plod has gone in spying on innocent people, and their system could be swamped with FOI requests further tying up resources.

Great new Indymedia UK website BTW - IMC UK rides again! The server seems to work faster - and securely hosted in whistle-blower friendly Iceland. Smart move!

Why not create a database of Plods and their colleagues in the various groups that they operate under? This could be put in the public domain as it is in the public interest after all.

Watchy.

Whilst we fully support and encourage people to complete data protection requests, it is important these are only made if you think the police already know who you are. Otherwise you are running the risk of giving the cops lots of data they might not already have, and protecting your anonymity with the state should be a priority.

However, if people do data protection requests and are happy to share the results anonymously with Fitwatch, we'd be very grateful!
