URGENT: OPPOSE THE MARSHALL UK BEAGLE FACTORY

New York-based Marshall Farms purchased UK vivisection breeder B&K Universal
from the Bantin family a number of years back. The site was cleared of all
animals and breeding stock and has remained empty for over a year - until now.

Marshall Farms have lodged a planning application under B&K Universal's trade
name with East Riding of Yorkshire Council to demolish all buildings on site
and construct four units for use in breeding beagle dogs for vivisection.

If permission is granted, many thousands of beagles will be imprisoned in the
kennels onsite to be sent on to labs. The main clients of Marshall / B&K
Universal in the UK are set to be toxicology research centres, where these
sentient animals will be poisoned on a daily basis and suffer a painful,
lingering death.

We cannot afford to allow Marshall Farms to expand their sick business and
reach out into the UK! Please contact East Riding of Yorkshire Council and ask
for this disgusting development to be refused! The deadline is the 2nd May and
please quote Planning Application Number 11/01324/STPLF.

Suggestions on objections to planning application

20.04.2011 16:52

Hi folks, I am in East Yorkshire and deal with planning regularly, and I will also be objecting to this planning application.

I just wanted to mention that the Council will not take objections as seriously if they focus purely on the animal rights issues (in fact it would be helpful if some objections did not mention this angle at all)

In order to make more substantial (in the Council's eyes) objections, please investigate/comment on the planning related issues such as:

- The site is surrounded by a wall that is 'Listed' and part of this wall is to be demolished

- The access to the site is on small rural roads perhaps not suitable (see the design and access statement in the companies application here for more info on traffic:  http://www.eastriding.gov.uk/newpublicaccess/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=LIV98UBJI2000)

Other than these issues I have not yet found any other substantial planning related reasons to object but I hope there are more because this does not bode well.

Unfortunately if the company are working within the laws of our government, the local council will not be likely to disapprove of the development on welfare grounds, although it may be worth pressuring local councillors on this issue, to show them that the residents of this area do not want to be associated with the breeding (and regularly overbreeding) of thousands animals for vivisection
purposes.

I am heartbroken at the thought of this going on in my county, but feel very restricted in ways to fight it.

An argument in the Speac campaign.........

Another thought that has been a part of objections before is that this proposed vivisection breeding facility will inevitably attract anti vivisection protests with the incumbent noise nuisance, potential blocking of roads, increased security, increased levels of policing which protest will generate and all that considerable added cost to the cash strapped local council......
