Breaking Nuclear newsnight

Uncle Christ late on | 12.04.2011 22:44 | Climate Chaos | Ecology | Terror War

I've just seen this and wrote as i heard it.

notes from Newsnight & Jeremy Paxman

these notes aren't a transcript but I have no doubt you can find it on BBC Iplayer.

Jim Crawford head of EDF UK @ Sizewell,
there would be back up battery systems if diesel generators failed,
there was absolutely no mention if these back up systems would be under water or whether they had any other considerations in place.

Andy Spurr head of EDF UK,
the reply to, 'what about anybody living near a nuclear power plant' was,
'dont worry you'll be isused with iodine tablets'.

John Large, top man, Independent, wasnt happy (sorry i lost the plot here for obvious reasons)

John Ritch, World Nuclear Assoc, said 'there has been no serious harm to anyone in Japan' I repeat!!!
also said, 'safe zone in britain, 10x less, compared to anywhere else, gave an attitude of 'not my problem, its Britain's policies', not literally.

Well done, Jeremy, great piece.

Indeed not. Please name or list anyone who has been seriously injured or killed by radioactivity from these reactors in Japan.

Reality Check

You mean aside from ...

... the two workers with radioactive burns from wading into highly contaminated water without boots or the small army of workers whose risk for cancer has escalated to 1.25 times the baseline?

There's been 25,000 killed by the tsunami and zero killed by the nuke effects. I find it pretty disrespectful that headless chickens like you just COMPLETELY IGNORE the hundreds of thousands of poor homeless, injured and dead that have been caused by the TSUNAMI while continuously trying to claim everyone's as good as dead or dying from the nuke effects - not one even near death yet. Start seeing things in true perspective as they really are for fucks sake. Hundreds of thousands, zero - not really comparable now are they? I'm not defending the shoddy nuke industry for a moment but if you pay for my plane ticket I'd willingly nip over there and deliberately expose myself to 1.25 times the normal radiation dose just to educate all the hordes of knee-jerking scientific illiterates an innumerates like yourself. I don't think you'd know what the number 1.25 means even if it bit you on the bollocks. Here's a hint, it's a fairly trivial "escalation".
