Welcome to Palestine Today, a service of the International Middle East Media Center, www.imemc.org, for Monday April 11, 2011
Palestinian Authority says, Palestinians ready for Statehood in September, Israel says, we should not hold truce with Hamas, these stories and more are coming up, stay tuned.
Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdore Lieberman said on Monday that settling for a truce with Hamas is a big mistake and instead Israel should try to topple Hamas government in the Gaza Strip.
Liberman's comments came as international mediators are trying to reach a truce with Hamas after few days of fighting which killed 19 Palestinians during the past week.
Israeli military sources said Israel did not respond to a home-made shell fired at Asqalan area north of the Gaza Strip that landed in open area. However, Palestinian security sources reported that Israeli gunboats opened fire at Palestinian fishermen boats Sunday evening, however, no injuries were reported.
Fishermen could not get daily work done, as they had to return to shore to avoid further shelling.
Palestinian Prime Minister of the care-taker government Dr Salam Fayyad said Monday that Palestinians are now ready for statehood.
"I believe that our governing institutions have now reached a high state of readiness to assume all the responsibilities that will come with full sovereignty on the entire Palestinian occupied territory," Fayyad Said in the report.
Minister of Planning Dr. Ali Jarbawi announced the government's "national readiness to establish an independent Palestinian state during September."
Both, Jarbawi and Fayyad stressed the need to end the Israeli military occupation in Palestine. The Palestinian Authority is expected to demand a UN resolution to recognize a Palestinian State within the pre-1967 borders, despite Israeli warnings against such step.
On the ground, Israeli military forces demolished a water well designed to collect rain water and an agricultural structure in Al-Khader village southwest of Bethlehem on Monday.
The well and the building belong to Mohammad Dar Issa and his brothers. The well can collect some 90 cubic meter of water, and the building was 225 squared meter in area.
The Maan News Agency said that the bulldozer put the rubble of the building in the well in order to completely destroy it.
This demolition will severely affect the Issa's work and will cause them a financial set back. The Israeli military gave no official warrant. Issa found some papers in Hebrew only near his farm, which turned later to be a demolition order.
That sums up our news for today, thank you for joining us from occupied Bethlehem. You have been listening to Palestine Today from the International Middle East Media Center.
