Support the NHS picket in Cambridge, 09/04/2011

Yesterday (Saturday April 9th, 2011) a small but significant group of activists gathered in Cambridge Market Square to lodge their disapproval of the government's current proposals to all but privatise the NHS by devolving funding to local GP practices - a bizarre idea by anybody's standards.
However, it looks like there may be second thoughts on the part of those in Whitehall, as the plans have been put on hold for a while. What implications this has no one can tell at the moment, as ministers are being tight-lipped as to their motivations for this decision.
The Cambridge demo entailed most people in attendance dressing up in symbolic doctors' and surgeons' outfits, and even the Grim Reaper made an appearance, proclaiming "I want your NHS" - a sobering thought!
A few songs were sung, one of them a reworking of Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" another to the tune of "London's Burning", replete with the lyric "Andrew Lansley, what a plonker"!
Yep, anyone who messes with the sacred cow of the NHS without good cause has to be a plonker.
