Ian Tomlinson inquest - police officer crumbles under examination

A N Other | 06.04.2011 11:22 | G20 London Summit | Repression

Simon Harwood - the police officer who assaulted Ian Tomlinson shortly before he died - is not doing very well under examination by the lawyer for the Tomlinson Family.

Time and time again the notes written by Simon Harwood are being compared to video recordings. It is being shown in forensic detail that the notes are largely a work of fiction.  http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/blog/2011/apr/06/ian-tomlinson-inquest-live-updates is the live update for today. There was also one yesterday where the family lawyer started the demolition. There are also transcripts  http://www.tomlinsoninquest.org.uk/Tomlinson/HearingTranscripts/

Of course Simon Harwood and the police are not going to be held to account for this and all the other incidents, but at least the truth about this one is being dragged into the light.

Police and video

Without all the video footage none of this would have come to light.

The police routinely collude with each other in their evidence, lie in court, (and to the press) and magistrates and judges usually find them to be 'honest and credible' in their evidence. with resulting convictions for many innocent people.

In this case, it was an open and shut case of accidental death, 'investigated' by the City of London Police whose dog-squad were there on the scene.

It is normal for an outside force to take initial responsibility for investigations of this kind. Who has taken responsibility for handing over to the City of London Police? Nobody, another coward hiding amongst his mates.

Before the guy came forward with his hand shot video, Harwood wouldn't even have been placed at the scene. None of the cctv cameras were working, remember: Now who told that porky? Another cowardly cop.

Harwood was just doing what he had been trained to do, dish out violence as he saw fit, secure in the knowledge that other cops would cover his back.

Only because there is so much video evidence showing Harwood to be consistent in his lying is this now coming to light. I reiterate, this is what the police have been doing for years, and many innocent people have been beaten and fitted up. Of course, it is in the interests of the establishment that this continues to be the case, so don't expect any changes to come from this case.

RIP Ian Tomlinson, my thoughts are with your family at this grievous time.

sad but true
