I've heard worse on Little Britain

"Jokes" like this are never funny. To dismiss these "rape" comments like that is showing a lack of understanding of the issues that affect women on a daily basis. That they come from people whose duty it is to uphold the law (including incidents of rape and sexual assault) is indicative of the depth of the problem. That the Gardai feel at ease with these comments, and about the ways that they can "bend" the truth to suit themselves is indicative of a wider malaise within the Irish Garda, and in particular with those policing the Corrib Gas Pipeline alongside Shell's own private squad IRMS

The comment about "hearing worse on Little Britain" beggars belief. The fact of the matter is, Gardai officers have been caught joking about raping women who they have just intimidated and arrested. Funny? It's no big surprise that they did this, unfortunately - police everywhere are misogynists and bullies - it's just that they caught on tape. Police threatening "canteen culture" is no laughing matter, when these pigs have carte blanche to bully protestors as they see fit at Rossport. It's not a joke, because the police *do* do very nasty things to people, in Rossport as everywhere.
