Building an alternative Indymedia
Reclaim the (Indy) Media | 29.03.2011 09:03
It's becoming clear that the current editors of UK Indymedia are far too biased to continue in an impartial role. There has to be a real alternative for Independent Media in the UK and Indymedia UK, with it's current editorial team, no longer fulfils that role.
Would anyone be interested in creating a new platform for open news articles and free discussion about those articles ? This alongside free discussion of other important issues of the day. I think a real alternative is needed or the current system here at Indymedia needs some closer scrutiny and a bit of a revamp of editorial guidelines.
It's clear that the far left is now behaving in exactly the same fashion as the far right these days. Censorship of criticism, enforcement of one ideology over another etc
Indymedia is currently engaged in proactive censorship of any contrary view that goes against the editorial teams belief set. This is not what Indymedia was about initially and quite frankly I think it's an absolute disgrace that these people are at the helm.
I'd like to call for a motion of no confidence in the current editorial team and would like to put this to the vote.
To that end I will look to create an impartial poll that is hosted elsewhere and can not be tampered with. (If anyone can recommend a good site for this, please let me know)
The current editors appear to be suffering from a bad case of cognitive dissonance and this is not a good state of affairs for an independent free thinking newswire.
You can quell contrary opinion all you like but, it doesn't change that opinion. That can only happen through ideological and philosophical interaction and discussion. If anything it further reinforces my opinion that you are bad apples. I wouldn't be at all surprised if you are representing a state led agenda and I'm not kidding here.
I'll be popping down to London in a few weeks so I'll drop in and see you guys and we can have this discussion in the real world because, I want to see what the current editorial team are really about.
Gut instinct is something I am fairly reliant on and more oft than not, my instincts are not far off the mark.
I'm becoming increasingly convinced that you people are not all you seem.
You can hide this alongside my other posts and doubtless you will but, this post also constitutes news and a call to action so I will politely request that you leave it where it ought to be and available to others for free discussion.
To do otherwise confirms what a large number of people already suspect, that you are indeed a few bad apples spoiling the contents of the cart.

Has the former independent news wire been "got at"? The agenda has changed and the different type of site is not a patch on the old one. It has all been done on the quiet.
Change is necessary.

Take this down please.

There's a new IM project coming soon, which as I understand it will just group news feeds from other sites into one convenient location, and then hopefully we can permanently reject the current fuhrers, (aka editorial team), entirely.

There's that phrase again. Cognitive Dissonance! For anybody that is new or inexperienced, IMC has a long term disruptor of the newswire who tends to disagree with everything posted to Indymedia. He is guaranteed to post on articles critical of the Israeli and US governments. Anything that constitutes a criticism of the established status quo, Mr Cognitive dissonance will try to disrupt.
The Indymedia moderators are anonymous volunteers so nobody knows who they are. They could be completely genuine, they could all be police officers, Jews, Labour Party political science operatives or even union members. They could even be mainstream journalists or members of the far right or anarchists. Nobody knows.
The test comes from how well they stick to the editorial guidelines which anyone can read. In my view they do that job competently. They don't get it right 100% of the time but then again, who does?
If you publish coherent articles backed by fact, original analysis, evidence from a first hand account or just illustrative original content, then your article will stay up, if you publish material which is just opinion, is misleading, fraudulent or just copying from another source with no attempt to verify then its considered worthless and is therefore hidden.
Some people, and I suspect Mr Cognitive Dissonance is one of them, publish deliberately misleading articles precisely in order to get them hidden, thereby giving them an opportunity to complain about censorship at IMC and questioning the motives of the moderators.

Everyone knows that the IM crew is littered with cops, that IP addresses are being harvested, that this fact was hidden for YEARS and that the "open newswire" is censored to the 9th degree by a biased editorial team who even tried to wreck the IM project entirely!
Or is saying these things a crime now?
Take my IP and FUCK OFF!!!!!
Rhetoric...

But, don't worry, your embarrassing attempt at a smear will soon be taken down.

Indymedia UK must change, the recent events of March 26th show how out of touch it is with the movements on the streets. I tried to convince people to use IMC for reports etc and the attitude I had was near 100% rejection. The majority of people I spoke with associated IMC with antisemitism and 9/11 truth campaigns. It was worrying to hear comments from people about what was described to me as the "IMC obsession with Israel and Jews" and "they just hide anything they don't agree with"
The replacement of the current admins is long overdue and a revamp of the site strongly required however I know full well this will not happen, they will hide this post, the comments to it and any emails on the subject to the moderation list will be blocked before they reach the public list area. IMC will I am sorry to say wither away as it is overtaken by corporate sites like Facebook and Twitter. Something that was very clear in the run up to the March 26 demos where IMc was irrelevant and had to play catch up to be involved.
My energies are now focused on a video production facility for asylum seekers that allows me to make a difference to the world rather than reading any more IMC posts about how every problem in the world is related to "Zionist bankers" or Mossad.
When IMC in the UK eventualy just goes away I will be sad as I think it will have been an opportunity lost.
