Video shows how police tricked Fortnum & Mason occupiers into mass false arrest

fight the power | 28.03.2011 19:43 | Public sector cuts | Repression | Social Struggles

Video shot by Green and Black Cross and released by UK Uncut via The Guardian shows how a Met Chief Inspector lied to occupiers promising they would be let free if they left the building. They were then arrested en masse, many held for 24 hours, and 138 charged with aggravated trespass. The Met's case now appears in tatters.

See Guardian link here for the footage:  http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/mar/28/cuts-protest-uk-uncut-fortnum

She also says that, rather than warning protestors to leave or risk prosecution, the police actively kept them there for their own "safety". According to the Guardian, the police have so far charged 149 people from Saturday. 138 of these were charged with aggravated trespass at Fortnum's. That leaves at most only 11 people who are not being prosecuted on the basis of a blatant outright lie by a senior police officer, caught on camera.

And you expected what exactly?

You expected something different? The police LIE! It's simple. If you are stupid enough to believe what they said then you deserve to be arrested. I hope this teaches you a lesson that the police are not on your side!

was there, there were shoppers there, they continued shopping and some of us did too (good stuff as well), the cops TOLD us to stay inside as there was trouble outside....then all the shoppers were released when the kiddies fucked off. those who wernt involved were released and those that were got niked....

Sorry if you think that actions shouldnt have reactions but in the real world you pay for your actions deal with it.

OK it's naive to believe the police but it's fucked up to suggest they "deserve to be arrested".
