"Shut Down Guantánamo!" / Free Shaker Aamer / Free Bradley Manning demonstration

Friday 1 April, 12-1pm and 1.15-2.15pm:

12-1pm: US Embassy, Grosvenor Square, London, W1A 1AE (nearest tube: Bond Street/Marble Arch)

1.15-2.15pm: Speaker's Corner, Hyde Park, W1 (nearest tube: Marble Arch)

Join us on April Fool's Day as we protest the foolishness of arbitrary detention and the practice of torture.

We will be holding a lunchtime demonstration outside the US Embassy and then on the pavement outside Speaker's Corner, Hyde Park.

Join us as we continue to demand the immediate release and return to the UK of British resident Shaker Aamer, unjustly imprisoned without charge or trial at Guantánamo Bay for over 9 years, and justice for the other 171 prisoners still held at Guantánamo, as well as those held at Bagram in Afghanistan and similar prisons.

This month, we will also be expressing solidarity with dual US-UK citizen Private Bradley Manning, a 23-year old US army intelligence analyst, accused of leaking confidential data to the Wikileaks website. Mr Manning, who went to school in Wales, was arrested by the US military in Iraq last year and currently faces several dozen charges, including "assisting the enemy", which carries the death penalty. The data he is alleged to have leaked, including film footage, reveals evidence of US war crimes and other information regarding US military activity in Iraq, Afghanistan, Guantánamo Bay and elsewhere. Despite his dual UK-US citizenship, the UK government has to date largely ignored his plight, including the abuse he is reported to be facing on a daily basis at a US military jail in Quantico, Virginia.

Please join us for all or part of the demonstration.

If you are unable to join us, please contact your MP -  http://www.theyworkforyou.com - and urge them to sign the following Early Day Motions:
