About time we faced up to what is bad in Islam

I attended by first(and only) anti Edl demo in Rochdale.
I found the experience very frightening.
Not because of the EDL, but the company I kept on the demo, some of the young Muslims.
The cry of ''God is Great' was chanted over and over again by the Muslims within the anti EDL demo.
And I heard on more than one occasion ''white bastards' abuse thrown about.
That was when I left.
I was warned by some who had been on anti EDL demos before, that a large percentage of the young Muslims who turn up at these demos, well what can I say, are not very PC shall we say.
I have been told of sexual harrsement of women on these demos, and female anti fascists complaing of such behaviour.
These demos are not a safe place for women or gays.
We on the left, are ignoring the homophobia, and sexism within the Muslim community, and stupid religious extremism as seen on these demos.
By ignoring this, it only give ammo to the EDL and how well they will do in the future.

Male chauvenism is not exclusive to Islam, but is highly pervasive within islamic culture and must be challenged by us all, particularly Unite Against Fascism, not ignored as if pretending it does not exist.

There are open-minded, progressive Muslims and there are narrow minded bullies. But this can be seen in any social, political or religious grouping. There are individuals using Communism, Christianity, Judaism, Fascism and all other ideologies who are seeking to establish themselves as 'the leaders' and who are intolerant of any other interpretation of reality that contradicts their own.
If we truly want to improve relations and build a better world, then we need to begin communicating with each other, with real people, not with preconcieved ideas.
The same anti-social, ignorant behaviour found at some Muslim meetings can be found in almost every other type of social gathering. Taking the bad example of a minority and using it as a generalisation is disingenuous and wrong.
We all need to break free from prejudice, indoctrination of all kinds, and the fear and hatred that is being peddled by those with hidden agendas. We need to increase open, honest dialogue across all human boundaries.
PEACE!
