Last night (at approximately 11pm) three people involved in the organisation of the 0742 club (The art collective and squatted building on the moor) were arressted for theft; merely for attempting to take food that had been thrown away from the bins at Waitrose on Corporation Street in Sheffield.
On the 17th of March at approximately 11pm GMT, three members of the 0742 club were arressted outside the refuse bins in the carpark of Waitrose Supermarket on Corporation Street under "Suspicion of theft" for attempting to partake in the noble art of skipping (the act of liberating unwanted and out of date food from the bins of big supermarkets to eat). The three who's names we cannot disclose (in case they have opted not to give them to the arresstiung officers) were taken to West Bar Police Station in Sheffield City Centre for questions.
One of the three arressted was released without charge at approximately 3am this morning on the condition that he accepted that in the eyes of the law skipping was a crime. The other two, who have so far been detained without charge, are still being held at the police station and numerous efforts to make enquiries about those detained have been refused by the police without explanation for the reason.
We believe that the arrest of these three men was no coincidence, since people regularly take food from the Waitrose refuse bins, and that the police may be keeping tabs on those involved in the running of the 0742 Club. One resident of the 0742 who did not want to be named said "It's awfully suspicious, not to mention utterly wrong; people do this all the time and in any case, the food is due to be thrown away, surely it is a good thing that these men were trying to prevent the unecessary disposal of perfectly eddible food."
We urge all who read this article to contact West barr police station on 0114 220 2020 so that the pigs no we are keeping an eye on them too.
