Screening of Land and Freedom for Brighton AntiFascists

Brighton AntiFascists are hosting a screening of Ken Loach's 'Land and Freedom'.

6.30pm Thursday 10th March at the Duke of York's, Brighton.

Land and Freedom is a Ken Loach film set in the Spanish Civil War. Loosely based on George Orwell's 'Homage To Catalonia', it tells the story of a young communist who travels to Spain to fight fascism, however his ideology is tested when his comrades are killed and the fragile alliance disintegrates.

The film is being shown as a benefit for Brighton AntiFascists- a newly formed, autonomous, antifascist group. 2011 is the 75th anniversary of the Spanish Civil War, yet fascist ideologies and attitudes still need to be countered. Through organising, networking and confronting far right groups, Brighton AntiFascists aim to prevent these groups from gaining a foothold in the South East.

The film is being shown at The Duke of York's, Britain's oldest purpose built cinema. There will be a meeting at Circus Circus (pub opposite Duke of York's) after the screening for people who want to find out more or get involved.
