The staff of Venue magazine – Bristol and Bath’s leading what’s on and cultural review weekly – are fighting to save their jobs after it was announced last Tuesday (22nd February) that the publication faces closure due to ‘a relatively small decline in readership coupled with a thundering decline in ad revenue.’

After rumours circulated online of its impending demise, Dave Higgit, the group editor of Venue publishing, came clean, confirming the gossip in a valedictory statement.

‘Over the last four years, Venue Magazine has experienced a steady decline in terms of both circulation and advertising revenue,’ he said.

‘I have been personally involved with Venue since its inception in 1982.  I am sad beyond words that it has come to this.’

He pointed out that the move ‘will involve several redundancies.’ However, his announcement contained a consolatory trace of hope: ‘Nothing is decided for certain, and I welcome any ideas to save the magazine.’

The last issue sold is set to be issue 962. Full article...
