Chimpanzee Meat Found on Sale in British Restaurant -- Take Action Now!!!

A Monkey's Friend | 02.03.2011 17:29 | Animal Liberation | Ecology | World

According to an article in the Daily Mail, investigators researching the bushmeat trade recently discovered that bushmeat they bought in a British restaurant was actually originally from a chimpanzee!

The original horrifying story can be found here:  http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1361149/Chimpanzee-meat-discovered-British-restaurants-market-stalls.html

It was reported yesterday in a British newspaper, (the Daily Mail), that meat from chimpanzees and other endangered wildlife, known as "bushmeat", is being sold in British restaurants. It is estimated that at least five tonnes, (5000kg), of bushmeat is being imported illegally in to Europe each week, much of it coming from primates and other endangered species.

The majority of bushmeat smuggled into Europe arrives at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, France, before being distributed across Europe. But, incredibly, bushmeat is not a priority for customs officials, the penalties for importing it are low and rarely enforced, despite the fact that bushmeat represents one of the greatest threats to species conservation.

Please urgently contact the Executive Committee responsible for the operation of Charles de Gaulle Airport, the main European import point for bushmeat, and demand that they do more to tackle this illegal and unforgivable trade in wildlife!

Sample Letter:--

For the urgent attention of the Executive Committee of Charles de Gaulle airport;

I'm writing to you today to express my profound concern at the unlawful smuggling of "bushmeat" through your airport, as reported today by the British newspaper the Daily Mail:  http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1361149/Chimpanzee-meat-discovered-British-restaurants-market-stalls.html

I am particularly worried by the claim that the security staff at your airport are not treating the illegal smuggling of bushmeat as a priority, despite the grave dangers that it poses to biodiversity, wildlife conservation and the potential hazards to human health from this unregulated trade in unknown and unchecked meat.

I find it completely unacceptable that this appalling trade is not being prioritised by your staff and therefore I urge you in the strongest possible terms to apply the same effort and resources to the import of bushmeat as you do with other illicit contraband, such as narcotics and weapons.

I sincerely hope that you will consider my concerns,

Bushmeat represents one of the greatest threats to species survival, along side habitat destruction, so it's certainly not a "single issue" subject, and especially not as "imported meat could be carrying infectious diseases such as foot-and-mouth, anthrax, the Ebola virus, TB or cholera", which could easily pose a threat to all our health, (including people who haven't consumed the meat, but are exposed to secondary infection.

Now crawl back under your stone you "single issue" troll...

No meat is illegal? You should talk to the Environmental Health Agency, maybe they can advise you on where to get a high quality meal that might also help deal with your trolling. And as for your comments on uncontrolled immigration, you clearly have no knowledge or compassion for the suffering of people who are trying to find a better life in Europe, so clearly yo have nothing to do with No Borders.

Out of interest, where can I get a job to troll internet news stories? After all you two seem to be doing alright from it considering you're both willing to be posting comments at anti-social, (non-office), hours!
