Can't see the wood for the trees.

The forest sell-off U-turn is not a "win" for the protest movement. Its a con. The government gave up but turned it to its advantage to look like its listening.

I am amazed I have not managed to find this blindingly obvious point anywhere in the media yet, alternative or otherwise. I have just seen Tamsin Ormond touting the forest sell-off U-turn as a victory for the protest movement. If anyone actually believes this you need help. The only reason the government has given up for now is because NOBODY WILL BUY LAND WITHOUT A BUILDING PERMIT! And charities cannot currently afford to buy. As soon as they can crowbar a non-obvious loophole into the legislation they will try selling again. The government has just turned this current sticking point to its advantage to look like its listening. Most of the times activism looks like it has won anything can be analysed to actually be down to a changing economic climate. I would love this to be a victory but it isn't. As soon as money can be made, wave goodbye to all the little woodland creatures, because MONEY WILL ALWAYS WIN. Tell me how jaundiced I am, blah blah, just THINK for the love of god.
