Vegan awareness via confectionery

Lakeside Ethical Treats | 10.02.2011 02:53 | Animal Liberation | Climate Chaos | Health | Birmingham

At the Wolverhampton University Green Fair yesterday, a stall promoted veganism from a slightly different angle to the average vegan stall you may have seen. Alongside a selection of vegan leaflets were free samples of vegan chocolate and sweets, and also a wide range of confectionery for sale. This was the latest stall by Lakeside Ethical Treats, a 'shop' set up recently by Midlands Vegan Campaigns  http://www.ethical-treats.co.uk

At Midlands Vegan Campaigns, we know very well the effectiveness of food as a campaigning and awareness raising tool. Now with Lakeside Ethical Treats we are taking vegan campaigning into new territory.

Lakeside Ethical Treats is a grassroots 'campaign confectionery', similar to campaign caterers such as Veggies from Nottingham. We will be at dozens of events throughout the year, intent on smashing misconceptions about vegan food, and we also sell online. LET aims to raise awareness of veganism and raise funds for vegan campaigning. It is the first shop of it's kind, as far as we are aware!

We sell 100% vegan, natural, organic, fairtrade and healthy chocolate, sweets and snacks, whilst also offering free samples and promoting healthy, sustainable, compassionate living. We currently stock a broad range of 50 products, including chocolate bars, fudge, boiled sweets, chocolate gift boxes, chewing gum, healthy snack bars, gummy sweets and much more. The number and variety of products is expanding all the time. 100% of the profits are ploughed into Midlands Vegan Campaigns events, such as the forthcoming free vegan food fair in Coventry and the annual West Midlands Vegan Festival.

There are many confectionery stores where you can buy a wide range of sweets and chocolates, but how many are entirely vegan? How many are run by grassroots campaigners? How many promote veganism and plough the profits into vegan campaigning? In many respects, we believe Lakeside Ethical Treats is unique!
