Sheffield Library Cuts Protest: 'The Big Shhh...'

heavy reader | 04.02.2011 13:18 | Sheffield

Peaceful and imiginative protest to support our libraries, once know as the 'street corner universities, like many others for instance I would not have got to uni without free libraries and of course there is the joy of reading just for pleasure....

The Condems cuts are starting to bite and opposition is growing, so tomorrow Saturday at 11 PM at Sheffield Central Library, Surrey St as part of the National Day of Action for Libraries take part in a 'Mass Shhh-In.'

Shhh-In rules…

1. Finger to lips.
2. At 11am say Shhhhh!
3. Finish off with three cheers for the library!
4. Finally borrow lots of books – lets empty those shelves. You’re allowed up to 15 out on your library card, so bring a big bag!

real libraries not tesco ones!

This was amazing - you could barely get to the shelves as there were so many people crammed in and there was a constant beeping from the issuing machines! :-)
