On the situation in Egypt:

Mubarak has no legitimacy.

Suleiman has no legitimacy. He was appointed by Mubarak

The call in Egypt is for true democracy.

Democracy is the last thing that the U.S. wants for it’s third world backyard.

With democracy, the Egyptian people will reject the fundamentals of U.S. policy in that region.

The Israeli government would have to deal fairly with a neighbor on more or less equal terms, something it has never been willing to do, due to it’s fundamentally racists attitude toward Arabs.

Though the focus of protest is the removal of the dictator Mubarak, it is the United States that is to be deposed.

The U.S. claims to support the rights of the protestors. But it is the architect of the repressive actions unfolding before the world that are meant to forestall the protests.

The Muslim Brotherhood is not, at present, a negative actor in Egypt and elsewhere in the mideast. It is a small force. But it can be played to create fear in U.S. citizens. That organization is being set up to provide justification for U.S. and western interventions.

More will be added to this thread. Please spread widely and stayed tuned. General Joe

Security up near Syrian parliament ahead of protests
By ASSOCIATED PRESS
02/04/2011 13:21

Social media campaigns have called for "day of rage" in Damascus; Human Rights Watch says regime using intimidation tactics.

DAMASCUS, Syria — Plainclothes Syrian security agents were deployed in small groups outside Parliament in the country's capital ahead of planned anti-government demonstrations.

Campaigns on Facebook and Twitter have called for a "day of rage" in Damascus on Friday and Saturday.

The campaigns take inspiration from Egypt and Tunisia in using social networking sites to rally their followers for sweeping political reforms.

Syria's authoritarian President Bashar Assad has resisted calls for political freedoms and jailed critics of his regime.

By early afternoon, no protesters had gathered outside Syria's parliament.

Human Rights Watch quotes witnesses as saying Syrian security forces have been intimidating people in recent days who have tried to assemble to support the protesters in Egypt.
