BACKGROUND TO CHILD VICTIMS OF WAR
Joanne Baker is a local activist who travelled to Iraq to brake UN Sanctions imposed on Iraq after the first Gulf War.
From the UK, she took a rucksack full of medicines to an Iraqi Hospital, risking imprisonment.
What she witnessed in the Iraqi Hospitals left her in no doubt that Depleted Uranium Weapons were being used, and that modern warfare was a direct attack on civilians.

A teacher by trade Joanne came back to the UK and took it upon herself to research and promote the education of the real consequences of war and the causes of war.

She established a charity called Child Victims of War.

A campaigning charity that researches, not only the social, physical and environmental impact on the victims of war, but also the social, political and industrial complex that upholds and feeds the structure of war.
The charity intends to remain a grass roots organisation.trying to support a global call for mutual aid.
It aims to tackle fundamental questions:
How do we re-balance and address the history and system that we have inherited? How do we turn weapons into ploughshares? How do we enter in the true spirit of mutual aid and justice and address the millions of people that our government, and economy have castigated to a life of destitution.
Child Victims of War is presently in contact with an orphanage in Afghanistan and making links with women supporting women and children in Iraq
