All of the Thessaloniki 4 are free

MR | 01.02.2011 17:43 | Repression | Social Struggles

The four comrades, including UK anarchist Simon Chapman, have been found not guilty for all (except one minor charge) in Greek court of the charges going back to the EU Summit protests and riots in Thessaloniki in 2003.

All four of the defendants are free. All the initial charges were dropped apart from “distinguished defiance of authority” which was then reduced to “minor defiance of authority”. This is a misdemeanour, carrying a 6-month suspended sentence, but none of them will be imprisoned unless of course someone is charged again during these six months. This was the best the juries could ever do, since they had to be charged of something, in order to “justify” the six months they had spent in prison back in 2003.

Minor? MINOR?

That sucks- after all that, they could at least acknowledge the defiance of authority as 'distinguished'.

Lock you up for six months and then deny you your kudos - it's an outrage...

the three of them are free, the fourth is in prison accused of a bank robbery... lets not forget that. its good ofcourse about the three being free but one more comrade among many is still in jail. lets not leave any comrade anywhere in the world, alone.
THE PASSION FOR FREEDOM IS STRONGER THAN THE PRISONS

Just to clarify that all 4 were found not guilty on all but one count, excluding Fernando Perez who was found not guilty on all counts.

Any additional funds from the Thessaloniki 4 Solidarity Group will be donated to the movement in Greece who are supporting the 40+ comrades in prison.

Out of the four, one, Fernando was found not guilty of all charges. The remaining three were cleared of all charges except one minor offence, sentenced to six months suspended and with time spent already paid a 500 euro penalty for thoses extra days less than the six months not spent in the nick. Michalis is up on other charges so remains in prison.

Solidarity to all prisoners!!
