BREAD AND FREEDOM! Solidarity protest with the people on the streets of N.Africa & the Middle East protesting against food prices/austerity/cuts/poverty/unemployment trying to bring down their governments.

VIRTUALLY EVERY DICTATORSHIP in N.Africa & The Middle East is funded, armed & backed to the hilt by Western governments - including our own.

MUCH OF THE TEAR-GAS & BULLETS used against democracy protestors in Egypt has been supplied by Western governments - including our own.

OBAMA & CAMERON have pointedly failed to call for free and fair elections in Egypt...

ACROSS THE WORLD people are fighting against cuts and austerity.
ACROSS THE WORLD people are fighting for peace, justice and equality.
JOIN THE GLOBAL MOVEMENT FOR GLOBAL JUSTICE - From Cairo to Cardiff!

"The dream is vague, Without a name, Yet warm and wavering and sharp as flame."

Initiated by Cardiff Stop the War Coalition & other activists. If you would like to help out email us! We invite all local anti-war, anti-cuts, human rights, trade union, Middle Eastern/N.African networks to join in the action...

But the Egyptian people aren't asking for free and fair elections: they're asking, in the first instance, for Mubarak to go. Hague and Blair have called for free and fair elections as a ploy to buy time for Mubarak who they support. Your demonstration must also call for what the Egyptian movement is calling for. Support for Egyptian democracy always ties in obviously with support for the Palestinians. I suggest your slogans could be:

Mubarak must go! End British support for the dictatorship!

Long live Egypt!- independent, democratic and sovereign

End the siege of Gaza!

..people have a rally at the Nye Bevan statue. People gather around, listen to some speeches, then go home. This is a momentus thing that is happening in Egypt. Is this really the best we can do?

Quick reply,

Re. Slogans, these are valid ones, the issue of Gaza has been raised on other publicity, the call-out above was written by an activist involved very quickly just to get something out.

Re. other point, I agree it is true that there is a severe danger of 'routine-isation' of local protests, hopefully though the demo on Friday will be fruitful. Any suggestions of possible actions/ideas etc are welcome.
