Julie Simmons | 31.01.2011 08:24 | Education | Public sector cuts | Workers' Movements | Oxford
Authors, trade unioinsts, library and anti-cuts campaigners, councillors and members of local communities will unite in defence of Oxfordshire library service on 5th Feb in a series of read-ins that are part of the Camaign for the Book national day of action called by author Alan Gibbons.
Oxfordshire Anti-Cuts Alliance 300 strong public meeting last week showed the strength of feeling to defend our libraries and public services. The amazing speech Philip Pullman gave at the meeting was posted on the internet and had over 20,000 hits in just two days.
In addition to building the campaign to defend libraries the read-in's have been called to develop the majority view of the meeting that everyone should be active in opposing all the cuts and help to build our next Oxford demonstration on 12th Feb and the national TUC demonstration on 26th March.
Everyone who wishes to stop library closures is welcomed to attend and take part.
