Indymedia UK to split!

The IMC UK project is being torn in two amid revelations of admins logging IP address and widespread distrust. According to a feature posted to the Sheffield site, the IMC UK site will be shut down and archived and two competing projects and separate site set up instead. One of those sites will continue to use the MIR content management system used by the current indymedia uk site. The other will be a so-called aggregation site which will pull content from various alt media projects including those indymedia collectives that have split off from the centralised MIR site.
The split comes at a time when activist communities have been rocked by news of long term deep infiltration by undercover police officers. The news has fostered a culture of distrust and makes the timing of admissions that MIR admins have been monitor IP addresses of IMC UK users even more unfortunate.
All Indymedia collectives are meant to be dedicated to the privacy of their users and IMC UK has long denied that it makes use of any form of IP logging. However now MIR admins have disclosed the truth to Schnews as they made public their research into a long term campaign of police disinfo and incitement posted to the UK site.
What does the future hold for indymedia in the UK now? Will any users forgive the deceit? Which, if any, of the new sites will they choose to use?
