Sheffield Indymedia collaborate with the alt sheffield group  http://alt-sheff.co.uk/ to promote events in the the local area.

We very much support the statement from northern-indymedia comment
"The most important contribution that anyone can make is by writing the news/making videos/taking pictures etc and uploading them to the site. Without this we simply cannot exist. So what are you waiting for, get out there and Be The Media!"

We look forward to providing a channel for independent and radical news during the upcoming struggle.

Northern Indymedia can help you here

20.01.2011 10:42

For events of this kind in the North of England we can help you.

IMC Northern is an open collective and anyone can get involved. We welcome all comers regardless of gender, race, religion, age, disability or anything else which is used to divide society. We are all against discrimination in all it's forms and are trying to build a diverse collective that can reach out into all the nooks and crannies of the North. You can see a copy of our mission statement here.

Getting involved is easy, and we will try to find a way to get the best out of any skills you have to offer. Don't worry if you feel you have nothing much to contribute, we'll soon squeeze something out of you :-) We are a non-heirarchical, non-corporate collective and all decisions are made by consensus. This means that your voice will be equally as important as any other right from the start. We value all input massively.

By far the bestway to get involved is by coming along to one of our open meetings which are advertised on this site and on our mailing list. This is the best way to find out who we are, what we do, how we do it and how we can get you doing it with us. Don't be shy about coming along, we're all a friendly bunch and will be glad to welcome you into the collective. Our meetings happen roughly once a month all over the region. If you or your group would like to host one where we could incorporate a media skillshare for you all too, get in touch by sending an email to  imc-northern-contact@lists.indymedia.org. We should warn you though, coffee making facilities tend to be a necessity.
We have poster blanks (in two designs) publicise meetings wherever they are.

In the meantime, a good starting point is to join our mailing list by going to  https://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/listinfo/imc-northern/ and introduce yourself by sending an email to the list at  imc-northern@lists.indymedia.org

We make good use of a tool called Crabgrass that you will find at  https://we.riseup.net/imc-northern which is where we write many of our feature articles and collaborate on projects witin the collective. If you'd like to get involved, sign up for an account and then click the join this group button! It's all quite informal and we always welcome new contributions.

It's sometimes hard to speak to large groups of people so if you'd prefer to make contact in private, send us an email to say hello at  imc-northern-contact@lists.indymedia.org

Sheffield social centre

You do know that there's already a social centre collective existing in Sheffield, right? Why not just get in touch with them rather than trying to do the same thing completely separately?

Nothing wrong with more

20.01.2011 14:21

So what if there is already one, let's have more. Part of a social centre is its outreach into the community not just to the established 'scene'.

I say go for it and do use Northern Indymedia they are great.
