Mark Kennedy investigation; Heads will roll?

jfk | 19.01.2011 08:38

how does one make heads roll on this topic?
does anyone have concrete positive advice?
slagging of other activists is not helping, maybe examples from the past or from other countries would help.

Bernard Hogan-Howe should run an independant review by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC)? Given his background, that is impossible. Here are some quotes of his relating to police:
"We expect them to be brave, not reasonable. "
"If we are grossly negligent in discharging our duties then we can be prosecuted for manslaughter if the victim dies. With the advent of corporate manslaughter, the whole force can be open to that charge too."

So, it seems he feels (undercover?)police should be brave but not reasonable, and if they act negligently, the should not be held responsible, even if someone dies. Is this a horrible joke?

And Acpo president, Sir Hugh Orde, now seems to take the moral high ground, supporting change. This is also disgusting, knowing that if Mark Kennedy's reports were landing even on Tony Blair's desk, then surely Sir Hugh Orde approved everything Mark Kennedy did.

This is so scandalous that it makes me physically sick.

I was a "friend" of Mark Kennedy/stone for 6 years. Lots of us who knew him are justifiably outraged. I live in Germany, and Mark operated here on the fringes of illegality according to one of our MP's. Likely also in some of the other 22 countries Mark operated in. But in these 22 countries, we don't vote in the UK. It is up to you there in England to hold your police accountable.

So please, don't only read these comments, take to the streets, get your grandma to write complaints, but write your MP's, do whatever you feel has to be done to be sure your police don't run amok across Europe, damaging lives and in the end, doing nothing to help anything except increasing the workload of the tax collector.

please take action,

ps. here are some comments sent to Germany by a UK citizen who seems to know more about UK policing than I do:

The launch of inquiries is a standard political tactic - Parliamentary discussion is suspended until the inquiry has reported, by which time the heat has gone. Significantly, it does not appear that any of the three inquiries will be concerned with operations in Germany. At present, it appears that the basis of operations in Germany will not be debated, unless a specific demand is made very soon.

As expected, the Home Secretary also said that "government did not interfere in operational decisions about surveillance", which means that he is unlikely to make further comment.
You should also be aware that the Parliamentary "Table Office" (controlled by the party leaders) has the power to refuse certain questions to be asked and refuse certain topics to be debated.

The following is a selection of news reports of the announcement: -
